Birthday Calculator

Someone born on August 14, 1995 was born on a Monday and turns 31 on Friday, August 14, 2026. This birthday calculator finds the birth weekday, current age, next birthday date, next birthday weekday, and whole-day countdown from one date of birth. The calculation uses date-only values in UTC, so it does not ask for a birth time or location. For February 29 births, this implementation uses February 28 as the birthday in a non-leap year. That is a consistent countdown rule, but laws, organizations, and personal traditions may use March 1 instead.

Time & DateBy

Quick answer

Enter your date of birth and the calculator locates that exact date on the calendar to find your birth weekday.

Next birthday

17 days until you turn 31 on August 14, 2026

Born on a

Next birthday falls on a

Friday

Current age

What this tells you

  • Enter your date of birth and the calculator locates that exact date on the calendar to find your birth weekday.
  • It then finds your next birthday, this year if it has not passed yet, otherwise next year.
  • The countdown is the number of full days between today and that date.
  • The age you are turning is simply the next birthday year minus your birth year.
  • If today is the birthday, the countdown is 0 and current age equals the age reached today.
  • A February 29 birth maps to February 28 when the target year is not a leap year.
  • All calculations use UTC calendar dates and ignore local clock time, daylight saving time, and birthplace.
  • The tool validates real ISO calendar dates and rejects a birth date later than the reference date.

How to Use

  1. 1Pick your complete date of birth in the date field and check the year carefully.
  2. 2Calculate, then read the weekday associated with the entered birth date.
  3. 3Review the next birthday date and weekday. If this year's birthday has passed, the code uses next year.
  4. 4Read the whole-day countdown. A birthday tomorrow gives 1, while a birthday today gives 0.
  5. 5Check current age and the age reached on the next birthday. The age is based on completed calendar birthdays.
  6. 6For a February 29 birth, note that a non-leap-year result uses February 28 by this tool's rule.
  7. 7If local midnight timing or a legal age date matters, confirm the result under the rules for the relevant location.

How It Works

Formula

days until birthday = next birthday date - today

The calculator parses the birth date and reference date as UTC calendar dates. It creates the birthday in the reference year using the birth month and day. If that date is earlier than today, it creates the same birthday in the following year. It subtracts the two UTC timestamps and divides by 86,400,000 milliseconds per day for the countdown. Age turning equals next birthday year minus birth year. Current age is one less when the next birthday is still ahead, or equal when the countdown is 0. For February 29 in a non-leap year, the birthdayInYear function explicitly returns February 28.

Calculation note: values are processed in the order shown above, using the current input units.

Worked Examples

Birthday still ahead this year

Date Of Birth1995-08-14
Today2026-07-15
Result30 days until turning 31 on August 14, 2026

August 14 is after July 15, so the birthday remains in 2026. The UTC date difference is 30 whole days. Subtracting birth year 1995 from birthday year 2026 gives age 31, and the calendar weekday for August 14, 2026 is Friday.

Birthday already passed

Date Of Birth1995-03-10
Today2026-07-15
Result238 days until turning 32 on March 10, 2027

March 10, 2026 is earlier than July 15, so the code advances the target to March 10, 2027. The UTC date difference is 238 days. The person turns 32 because 2027 - 1995 = 32.

Leap year birthday

Date Of Birth2000-02-29
Today2026-01-10
ResultNext birthday February 28, 2026

2026 is not divisible by 4, so it is not a leap year. This implementation maps February 29 to February 28 and counts 49 days from January 10. The person turns 26 because 2026 - 2000 = 26.

Birthday is today

Date Of Birth1988-12-31
Today2026-12-31
Result0 days until birthday, turning 38 today

The current month and day match the birth month and day, so the next birthday is today and the countdown is 0. The age reached is 2026 - 1988 = 38. The code returns current age 38 as well.

Leap birthday in a leap year

Date Of Birth2000-02-29
Today2028-02-29
Result0 days until birthday, turning 28 today

2028 is divisible by 4 and is a leap year, so February 29 exists. The calculator keeps the true month and day, returns a zero-day countdown, and reports age 28.

How calendar birthdays differ from exact elapsed time

A birthday age counts completed anniversaries of a calendar date. It does not measure the exact number of hours since birth because the calculator does not know the birth time, birthplace, current location, or time zone. That distinction rarely matters for a casual countdown but can matter around midnight.

Weekdays follow the Gregorian calendar used by the JavaScript date system. A regular 365-day year shifts the same date by one weekday, while a leap year can create a two-day shift after February 29. The pattern repeats over the calendar's 400-year cycle.

Leap-day birthdays need a policy when February 29 does not exist. This tool chooses February 28. Some people celebrate on March 1, and a legal rule may define age attainment differently. Use the applicable local rule for licenses, contracts, eligibility, or other official decisions.

Common mistakes

  • Counting today as a full day in the countdown. If your birthday is tomorrow, the countdown is 1 day, not 2.
  • Assuming your birthday weekday repeats every year. It usually shifts by one weekday per year, or two after a leap day passes.
  • Mixing up date formats. 03/04 means March 4 in the US and April 3 in most of Europe, so this tool uses an unambiguous date picker.
  • Expecting the countdown to include part of today as a full day when the tool compares date-only midnights
  • Assuming February 29 must always map to February 28 even though some personal or legal contexts use March 1
  • Using the result as an exact elapsed-age timestamp without entering birth time and location
  • Forgetting that a local date near midnight can differ from the UTC date used by the calculation

Frequently Asked Questions

Enter your date of birth and the calculator reads the weekday straight off the calendar. Someone born August 14, 1995 was born on a Monday.
It is the number of days from today until the next time your birth month and day come around. If your birthday is August 14 and today is July 15, the countdown is 30 days.
In non-leap years this calculator observes the birthday on February 28. In leap years the countdown targets the true February 29 date.
A regular year is 365 days, which is 52 weeks plus 1 day, so your birthday shifts forward one weekday most years and two after a leap day passes.
The next birthday year minus your birth year. Born in 1995 with a birthday still ahead in 2026 means you are turning 31.
Yes. If today matches your birth month and day, the countdown reads 0 days and greets you instead.
