EU/US/UK Shoe Size Converter
A men's US size 9 converts to EU 42, UK 8, and a 27 cm foot length. This shoe size converter matches your size in any one system, US, EU, UK, or cm, against the standard published conversion chart and returns the equivalent in the other three, separately for men's and women's sizing. Women's sizing shifts the same measurements differently than men's does. A women's US 8 lands on EU 39 and UK 6, not the EU 41 and UK 7 a men's US 8 would map to, because the two charts start from different reference points even though both count up in whole and half sizes. Pick your gender, choose the system you already know, and enter the size to see the other three.
Quick answer
US, EU, UK, and cm are four separate ways of labeling the same foot length, and none of them convert with a single flat offset across genders.
Converted size
Men's US 9 = EU 42 = UK 8 = 27 cm
US size
9
EU size
42
UK size
8
Foot length (cm)

What this tells you
- •US, EU, UK, and cm are four separate ways of labeling the same foot length, and none of them convert with a single flat offset across genders.
- •Men's and women's charts are different tables. A men's US 9 and a women's US 9 are not the same physical size.
- •UK sizing runs about a whole number below the US number for the same gender's chart (men's US 9 = UK 8).
- •EU sizing counts in a finer scale tied to foot length in centimeters, which is why it lands on whole or half numbers like 42 or 42.5.
- •The cm column is your actual foot length, the measurement that stays consistent no matter which country's label a shoe box uses.
- •The converter snaps your entry to the closest chart row and flags an exact match versus a nearest match for in-between sizes.
How to Use
- 1Choose men's or women's sizing to load the correct chart.
- 2Select the system you already know: US, EU, UK, or cm foot length.
- 3Enter your size in that system.
- 4Read the converted sizes in the other three systems below.
- 5If your entry falls between two chart rows, the result uses the closest match and notes it.
How It Works
Formula
size = nearest chart row match in the selected systemThe converter holds a men's chart (US 5 to 13) and a women's chart (US 5 to 11), each row pairing a US size with its EU, UK, and cm equivalents from the standard published size tables. Enter a size in any one system and the tool finds the chart row whose value in that system is closest to your entry, then reads off the other three columns from that same row. A size that falls exactly on a chart row is an exact match. A size that falls between two rows, such as a half size the chart does not list, rounds to the nearest available row and is flagged as a nearest match rather than an interpolated guess.
Calculation note: values are processed in the order shown above, using the current input units.
Worked Examples
Men's US 9 to EU, UK, cm
US 9 sits exactly on the men's chart row for EU 42, UK 8, and a 27 cm foot length.
Women's US 8 to EU, UK, cm
US 8 sits exactly on the women's chart row for EU 39, UK 6, and a 25 cm foot length.
Converting from EU back to US
EU 44 matches the men's chart row for US 11 and UK 10.
Converting from a foot measurement
A 25 cm foot length lands on the same women's chart row as US 8.
An in-between size
9.2 is not a listed size, so the converter rounds to the closest chart row, US 9, and flags it as a nearest match.

Why US, EU, and UK shoe sizes do not line up with one simple offset
Each country built its shoe sizing system around a different starting point and a different unit of measurement. The UK system historically counted in barleycorns, a unit close to a third of an inch, starting from a small child's size. The US system adjusted that same barleycorn scale but shifted the starting point, which is why a US size and a UK size for the same gender sit close together but not identical, typically about one whole number apart rather than matching exactly.
The EU system, sometimes called Paris point sizing, works differently again. It measures in two-thirds of a centimeter increments based on the length of the last, the foot-shaped form a shoe is built around, which runs slightly longer than the foot itself. That is why EU sizes climb through unfamiliar numbers like 42 or 42.5 instead of small whole numbers, and why the gap between one US size and the next does not always equal exactly one EU size.
Gender adds a second layer on top of the country layer. Men's and women's lasts are shaped differently, not just scaled versions of each other, so the charts are built separately rather than derived from one another with a fixed offset. A common approximation converts a men's US size to a women's US size by adding about 1.5 to 2, but that shortcut does not reliably extend to EU or UK sizing, which is why this converter keeps two separate lookup tables instead of one shared formula.
Foot length in centimeters is the one column that stays anchored to something physical rather than a labeling convention. Measuring your foot from heel to longest toe while standing, then comparing that number to the cm column, is the most reliable way to sanity check a size before relying on the US, EU, or UK label alone, especially when shopping a brand for the first time.
Brands also round differently, add their own break-in allowance, or design a last that runs narrow or wide within the same labeled size. A chart conversion gets you to the right neighborhood. A specific brand's own size guide, read alongside customer reviews mentioning whether it runs small or large, gets you the rest of the way.
Common mistakes
- Assuming a men's and women's size of the same number are the same shoe. A men's US 9 and a women's US 9 sit on entirely different chart rows.
- Applying a single flat number to convert US to UK across both genders. The men's and women's offsets are close but not identical, and neither is a perfectly flat difference across every size.
- Treating EU sizing as if it were a metric version of the US scale. EU sizes are tied to last length in two-thirds centimeter steps, not a direct rescaling of the US number.
- Ignoring the cm foot length column when a brand's cut runs narrow or wide. The labeled size can match while the fit still feels off.
- Measuring foot length in bare feet in the morning only. Feet swell slightly through the day and take up a little more room with socks, so measure in the evening with the socks you plan to wear.
- Rounding down on an in-between size to save money on a smaller-looking number. Sizing up on a nearest match is usually safer than sizing down for footwear.
